Why you can’t hide gas pipes: and what threatens it?

Why you can’t hide gas pipes

The design of any home is regulated by a number of documents, the implementation of which ensures the safety of its construction and operation. Including there are norms and rules for installing gas equipment and supplying gas pipelines to them. In residential premises, unlike industrial premises, the gas pipeline is only open-pit. It must not be hidden in the wall or in cabinets.

The document that defines the technical requirements for the design and placement of gas pipelines is "SP 62.13330.2011 Gas distribution systems."

According to paragraph 7.6: the transit laying of gas pipelines, including through residential premises, must be provided open to provide access for its inspection.

This rule is associated not only with the need for visual inspection and flaw detection of a gas pipe. Even in the absence of a weld, the pipe may leak as a result of a long service life. If it is open, you will smell the gas and be able to take measures for your safety in time. And if the gas will accumulate in a small enclosed space, this can lead to the most adverse consequences.

Based on this requirement, we can draw the following conclusions:

• the gas pipe can be covered with a decorative box, which can be easily removed for technical inspection;
• this piece of furniture must have ventilation openings;
• the gas pipeline itself cannot be in contact with the walls of the box and its fastening;
• all changes are best agreed with the service inspector.

What other problems may arise with improper operation of the gas pipeline

Violations in the use of gas equipment can be detected not only during the scheduled inspection of the apartment, but also during any transactions with it:

• when renting;
• upon execution of an act of gift or inheritance;
• in case of transfer of property as a pledge;
• upon sale.

All these operations require a technical plan of the apartment. One of the points in its design is the location of gas equipment.

Gas has become so firmly entrenched in our everyday life that we sometimes forget about caution in handling it. Safety rules are based on real situations and should not be neglected. After all, we are talking about preserving the life and health of your family.
