How to fix a do-it-yourself shower hose

The shower hose is the most vulnerable part of the faucet, which is subject to mechanical damage. Careless operation of the mixer can lead to premature wear of the product.

The main types of damage

To repair the shower hose, it is not necessary to contact the master. Most often, the inner rubber tube fails. The cause of the leak may be a crack or kink. Nuts are used to connect the shower head of the mixer.

During operation, the inner rubber tube dries and begins to crumble. The plastic hose ruptures due to pressure drops.

A decrease in water pressure may be due to cracking of union nuts or rubber seals. In case of violation of the integrity of the outer shell, a complete replacement of the product is recommended.

How to disassemble a hose

To carry out restoration work, the following tools will be required:

  • pliers;
  • adjustable wrench;
  • screwdriver.

First you need to close the valve on the mixer. To remove the damaged hose, unscrew the union nut. In tap water there are impurities that are deposited on the parts.

Plaque and rust form on the thread. Nuts can literally stick to the connectors. In order not to damage the surface, you can use a composition that eliminates traces of corrosion.

In the absence of a special agent, a solvent or acetone may be used. You can unscrew the nut with an adjustable wrench or pliers. Before the procedure, it is advisable to wrap it with a rag. Otherwise, scratches may appear on shiny surfaces.

How to quickly restore a product

The easiest way is to cut off the damaged area of the rubber tube with scissors. However, the length of the corrugated braid will remain the same. Therefore, the product will become more rigid. The disassembly procedure must be carried out carefully so as not to damage the chrome nut.

After trimming, the tube must be inserted back into the braid and secured with a metal sleeve. If the crack is in the middle, you will have to completely change the product.

The leakage may be due to the destruction of the threads at the joints. A complete seal replacement may be required to eliminate leakage.

The most reliable option: replacing the inner tube

It is necessary to remove the rubber tube and assess its condition. To pick up a hose in a store you need to consider several points:

  1. Pay attention to the thread diameter of the nuts (1/2 or 3/8 inch). If the connecting elements do not match, then you will have to use adapters.
  2. The standard product length is 150 cm.

To save money, you can buy an inner tube made of plastic. However, such a material is very sensitive to pressure drops. Silicone hose is more reliable.
