The film was shot a year and a half. The owners of the house, the Abendshin family, did not go anywhere and could take a double for a double to observe the filming process. During the filming, the daughter of the owners made friends with the main actor - Macaulay Kalkin. The Abendshin family itself acquired a house in 1988 for $ 875 thousand.
