How to properly care for a plastic window so that it lasts a long time

Plastic windows are designed for a long service life, but without the proper timely maintenance, this period is noticeably reduced. It’s easy to care for them, you can cope without the help of specialists. It is important to take care not only of the cleanliness of the plastic and the double-glazed windows, but also of the fittings and gasket elements.

Rubber compressor

A thin rubber strip around the perimeter of the frame - this is the seal. It ensures the tightness of the window when closed. In order for the sealant to retain its properties, it must be regularly taken care of. On his condition, temperature differences, dust accumulation and exposure to sunlight are noticeably reflected. The quality and condition of the sealant depends on:

  • noise level in the room;
  • the presence of a draft;
  • dust ingress;
  • heat preservation.

A special agent must be regularly applied to the rubber part: silicone grease, glycerin or a composition for the care of PVC windows. There are ready-made kits on sale, including components for all parts of the window (profile, fittings, gasket, glass).

For complete care of the sealant you will need:

  1. Use a damp cloth to clean the rubber of accumulated dirt and dust. You can use the usual soapy solution.
  2. Dry seal.
  3. Apply silicone oil evenly (grease or other product).
  4. Leave on for 30-60 minutes.
  5. Remove excess with a dry cloth.

With regular care, the rubber will remain elastic, which will prevent the appearance of cracks on it and a violation of tightness.

Corner switches

Another important element of the structure is the fittings, which include all moving elements. They are most loaded during the operation of the metal-plastic window and wear out quickly, so they require regular maintenance (at least once every six months).

To increase the life of the window, the hardware is lubricated with oil suitable for metal parts of technology, for example, machine. The surface is pre-cleaned of dirt, dust and other small particles. This can be done with a brush or vacuum cleaner. Lubricant is applied to all moving elements: locking trunnions, trims, loops, etc.

It is easy to understand what exactly needs to be lubricated, since manufacturers specifically mark such places with grease nipples or droplets. So that the oil is evenly distributed on the parts, it is applied in small drops from top to bottom. After lubricating the opening mechanism, turn the handle several times, opening and closing the window. Oil is applied carefully to all moving mechanisms around the perimeter of the window, including technological holes. Do not allow grease to enter the seal. Contact with oil may damage the rubber and require a complete seal replacement.

It is enough to repeat all the above steps twice a year, so that the windows remain airtight, and silence and warmth reigned in the room.
