Buzzing neighborhood: why you can't destroy a hornet’s nest

Wasps are unpleasant neighbors for the vast majority of people. Few people want to live with a hive of buzzing creatures in the same house. But superstitions claim that in no case should one destroy a hornet's nest.

Signs and superstitions about the hornet's nest

If a wasp hive has formed in your home, then superstitions interpret this sign as positive. It is believed that wasps, choosing your site or balcony as a new home, will give you some blessing - be it financial well-being or the long-awaited replenishment in the family. Therefore, superstitious people will not destroy the hornet’s nest - they are afraid to take such luck from themselves.

There is also a sign that destroying a hornet’s nest (it doesn’t matter whether at home or just in nature) means incurring terrible troubles, risking being left in poverty and loneliness.

At the same time, some superstitious people add that you can still get rid of wasps that appeared in the house - you need to use repellents, wait until the nest is empty, and just put it in the trash.

However, do not forget that wasps are quite dangerous neighbors. They can take waving for aggression and attack a person. They are one of the main enemies of bees. If you have a tendency to allergies, then a wasp sting can lead to serious consequences up to Quincke's edema. And they, like flies, carry a lot of unpleasant bacteria on their paws.

Wasps are not such harmless neighbors as superstitions

Rational reasons for the ban

However, there are quite logical and rational explanations why the hornet’s nest should not be destroyed.

Let's start with the most obvious - attack wasps. If you try to destroy or at least take out the nest when stinging insects crawl nearby, you will not be able to do this without a fight. Wasps will very predictably attack the potential offender. For this reason, it is considered the safest method to first destroy wasps (for example, pouring kerosene into cells or using dichlorvos), and then engage in their housing. Even better is to turn to professionals and not have to deal with wasps at all, but it can be an expensive pleasure.

In stores, a lot of tools for the quick killing of wasps

However, if you act quickly, you can remove the nest even at the moment when it is clogged with insects. For example, throw a thick plastic bag over it and wrap it so that the wasps do not fly out. This bundle can be thrown away from home or even burned (also away from home, the stench will be unimaginable).

Another reason is humanity. If it is difficult for you to decide to kill a whole colony of wasps and you have compassion for insects, then the destruction of the nest will bring you one nervousness. In this case, it is better to use deterrents (repellents), wait until all the wasps leave their home, and then remove it.

Some people avoid the destruction of hornet hives because of fear that angry insects will take revenge without finding their home in the usual place. This is not so - wasps, not seeing their nest, fly around in bewilderment and fly away. They will not search for a man and take revenge on him.

Wasps near the house are dangerous neighbors, so it is better to get rid of them as soon as possible. Do not listen to superstition, because in this situation we are talking about your safety and health.

Wasps three times lived in a small nest in my balcony. Never touched anyone nearby. Neighbors were forced to remove the nest so that they would not buzz and fly into them. Wasps are smart and valued simply for housing. Bumblebees huddled, striped flies, ladybugs wintered in wooden frames. There was nowhere to bee bees. Then in the 90s, suburban development and chemicalization began.

A very simple way: at dusk, wasps do not fly, but gather in the nest and at the nest. I cleaned the sitting wasps with a vacuum cleaner. And then you can safely remove the nest and carry it into the forest. So, without chemistry.
Well, if the nest is old, without wasps, then it is better to leave it - wasps will not be next to it or settle in it, considering that the place is taken. Well, if the nest is far away and does not interfere, then it is better to leave it and not touch it. Wasps are also pollinators.

In the first picture, hornets, also wasps, but much more dangerous than ordinary ones that live under the roof. I do not advise you to come to such nests closer than 5-7 meters, and they won’t let them. To meet with such, well, it can be very sad for your relatives.

I have wasps living in my yard, but there are no flies, wasps catch flies on the fly, they are only good. I don’t touch them, I changed the slate, I never stung me.
