How to effectively wash a stretch ceiling and not break it

Stretch ceilings are an expensive and durable acquisition that requires special care to maintain its functional qualities and appearance. On the ceiling, stretched in the kitchen, inevitably subsidence of particles of fat and soot. Ceilings in bathrooms tend to tarnish due to the constant exposure to steam and because of the relatively high humidity. It is important to know how to effectively wash the suspended ceiling in an apartment or office, and not to damage it.

What is needed

Weekly cleaning of ceilings is a process impossible because of its complexity. They are recommended to be washed once a year or as needed (spontaneous accumulation of dirt). Between a full-fledged washing of suspended ceilings, it is recommended to simply periodically remove dust from them. This can be done with a vacuum cleaner with a gentle nozzle in the carpet cleaning mode.

When, nevertheless, the day comes for a quality washing of ceilings, the main thing is to do it without streaks and not to damage the integrity of the canvas. You will need:

  • ladder;
  • bucket;
  • warm water;
  • half a bar of laundry soap;
  • clean rag made of cotton fabric;
  • Microfiber rag.

You can also use any non-abrasive cleaning gel, in the household chemicals market you can find a sufficient number of options. So, for washing glossy PVC ceilings, it is recommended to use a glass cleaner or diluted ammonia, which will prevent the formation of stains on the surface.

Washing process

Depending on the composition of the ceiling, the washing process will be slightly different. The ceilings are fabric and made of PVC film (glossy and matte).

Cloth stretch ceiling when installing for the money will cost more and care will require a special approach. The material tends to absorb excess moisture, which makes it tarnished and stretched. It also accumulates fat, soot, and plaque, which inevitably fall into the air during cooking or taking a bath. Such ceilings are better suited for living rooms: a bedroom, a nursery, a living room. It is better to clean stretch ceilings made of fabric with a vacuum cleaner or a steamer, in which the function of instant drying is provided.

Glossy PVC streams are also quite difficult to maintain. Any strong pressure with a rough washcloth will leave a mark in the form of a scratch, especially if abrasive detergents (soda, powder) are used. In order not to damage the gloss, you should follow simple recommendations:

  • use a soft rag, microfiber is better;
  • act with extreme caution - do not push, pull, scratch;
  • use non-abrasive detergents (ideally - laundry soap, spray for glass, diluted ammonia).

Matte ceilings are easier to clean than glossy surfaces; you must follow the cleaning recommendations and avoid severe contamination. Like any cleaning, this process requires regularity. On such ceilings, stains will not be noticeable, and it is also more difficult to damage and scratch them.The process of washing suspended ceilings looks like this:

  1. Prepare a soapy mixture. In a bucket of warm water, stir until completely dissolved half of the rubbed bar of laundry soap.
  2. Soak a clean rag in this solution.
  3. Apply soapy water to the ceiling in areas in circular smooth movements.
  4. After that, wash off the soap until the surface is completely cleansed with a second clean rag.
  5. Walk with a dry microfiber cloth.

Precautions

In order to prevent severe pollution, it will help you:

  1. Installation of a powerful hood in the kitchen, its use in every cooking process.
  2. Hang a curtain in the bathroom, which will restrain splashes and prevent them from spreading to the ceiling surface around the entire perimeter of the room.
  3. Wet cleaning in the apartment should be carried out regularly, so there will be no excess dust, which tends to settle on the ceiling.

In order to prevent the removal of dirt from the ceiling surface due to injury or damage to the material itself, basic precautions should be observed:

  1. Before using the detergent, you need to put it on an inconspicuous place to know how the ceiling material will react to it. Make sure that yellowness does not appear, the color remains the same, and the fabric does not hesitate and does not stretch.
  2. During cleaning, you must remove all jewelry (rings, bracelets) from your hands.
  3. Do not use a mop or other item with a long handle. It’s so difficult to calculate the forces applied to the sink and it is easy to break through the ceiling. Better to have a stepladder in the arsenal.
  4. Seams and crevices are recommended to be washed along so as not to damage the structure.
  5. Washing should be done in circular motions so as not to leave streaks. Apply soap solution in circles clockwise, and rinse against.
