How to choose a bath? Selection recommendations based on material, shape and size

How to choose a bath is a rather difficult question, since the design of the room and the comfort of a person depend on the rationality of the decision. Previously, it was practically impossible to find an option suitable for all criteria in the store, but today everything has changed, because the market has a wide range of bathtubs for every taste ... This also applies to the shape, size, color, and material of which the product is made. For this reason, this issue needs to be highlighted by devoting an entire article to it.

The first selection criterion is material

Answering the question of which bathroom to choose, you need to decide on the material. The most common in this regard are pig-iron and acrylic products, so we will talk about them later.

So, first, consider the benefits of a cast-iron bath:

  • this material absorbs noise, does not resonate upon impact;
  • good stability due to significant weight - the bath does not bend, does not change shape, does not require the use of additional fasteners during installation;
  • the water in the bath cools slowly (for about an hour and a half);
  • ease of cleaning - the bath is resistant to chemicals, and due to the absence of pores, dirt does not accumulate on the surface. In this aspect, the choice of a cast-iron bath is ideal, because the care of the product is minimal;
  • finished products are covered with a layer of enamel, which prevents the formation of corrosion. At the final stage, the bath is placed in an infrared oven in order to give a smooth surface and to increase the life of the bath.
Careful attitude to enamel - the guarantor of long service life of a product

Careful attitude to enamel is a guarantee of long service life of a product

It can be seen from the above that this material has a number of advantages, but when answering the question of how to choose a cast-iron bathtub, one can not help but mention the price point: a high-quality product from European manufacturers is expensive and this is an important argument. But among the shortcomings of bathtubs made of cast iron is a bulky, massive appearance, the lack of a variety of shapes and sizes. In a word, cast iron is a material characterized by many pluses, but when making a purchase, the price should be taken into account, because you have to pay for quality.

Everything is clear with this material, so you can safely proceed to the second question: how to choose a good acrylic bath? Having listened to our recommendations, you can make the right purchase:

  • the strength of the product can be checked by looking at the edge of the side: the reinforcement layers look like tree rings of wood. Also, when tapping, a sound bath makes a dull sound;

It is important to know: the quality of the bath, that is, the thickness of the sheets and the number of layers of reinforcement, is the main selection criterion. If you ignore this nuance, the bathtub can literally “creep”, filling everything around with water. Ideally, the thickness of the acrylic sheet is 5 mm or more.

  • economy-class products made from cheaper plastic quickly lose their visual appeal;
  • the democratic cost of the product should be alarming, since reliable reinforcement is not cheap.
How to choose a good acrylic bath

Plumbing acrylic has good characteristics, due to which bathtubs from this material are extremely popular

Taking into account the above points, you can make an unambiguous conclusion and decide which acrylic bathtub is better. We are talking about the need to give preference to an expensive product made on the basis of PMMA sheet.

This is important to know: in modern times the production of acrylic bathtubs has reached incredible volumes, so they are gradually replacing cast iron products from the market and are widely used (private homes, boarding houses, treatment centers).

Briefly tell about the positive properties of a high-quality acrylic bath:

  • high thermal insulation;
  • light weight;
  • antibacterial resistance;
  • the ability to repair damage;
  • durability;
  • diverse design.

As for the shortcomings, high-quality (!) Acrylic has no significant disadvantages.

The second criterion is shape and size

Unusual and to some extent extravagant forms have become the norm today, because modern people want to create a unique and comfortable environment. The choice of form and material are two inseparable components on which the aesthetic aspect and the question of the convenience of using the product for its intended purpose depend.

It is worth paying attention: a good shape is a guarantee of the correct placement of the body, and this is especially important in the presence of hydromassage.

So which bath is better? Here you need to consider many points:

  • triangular products make room in the passageway;
  • corner baths are also very practical;
  • the most popular are baths with a capacious bottom: for this, manufacturers make the descent to the bottom less gentle from the sides;
  • when choosing a specific form of the bathroom, one should take into account one's own preferences, layout of the room, financial capabilities.

As for the size, this parameter is limited by the area of the room, but in the bathroom a person should feel as comfortable as possible. The best option is a bath in which you can take reclining procedures with outstretched legs. The normal depth of the bath is 50-60 cm, and the width is determined as follows: if a person lies in the bath, five centimeters on each side should remain to the sides.

This is important to know: the internal volume of the bath depends on the angle of inclination of the walls, on the presence of armrests, roundings, notches.

The third criterion - pleasant things

Current manufacturers pay great attention to the safety of their products and do not forget about comfort. For example, they apply a special coating to the main layer of enamel of a cast-iron bathtub. It can be anti-slip coating, which is a guarantee of safety and elimination of injuries, the most relevant for children, the elderly. Also, an antibacterial coating with a small amount of silver ions is often applied to the inner surface of the product.

In addition, Western manufacturers offer consumers models of bathtubs with additional supports for the back, armrests, pillows under the head, special handles built into the left and right side.

Hydromassage bath

Hot tub - a wonderful invention that gives a lot of pleasant sensations and relieves fatigue

If you do not know which acrylic bath to choose, give preference to a hydromassage system because they bring huge benefit. For example, hydromassage stimulates the circulation of lymph, promotes complete relaxation, increases vitality, restores the body's energy resources.

The above information can be summarized as follows: each person has the right to decide for himself which bathtub is more suitable for him, taking into account the material, the price of the product, and the reputation of the manufacturer.

      For me, Temka is more relevant than ever! We bought an apartment, a cast-iron bath was inherited. She is many years old and I don’t know what the former owners did with her, but she has everything: corrosion, cracks in the enamel, the enamel has come off the rim and rust has appeared .... What the idea should not be! The question of throwing or leaving did not even stand. But what is there to change it ?! I tend to acrylic. First of all, due to a wide variety of sizes and shapes. In addition, we want to put it in another place and the standard size will not suit us. In general, I'm for acrylic! Pleasantly surprised by the information that damage can be repaired if something happens.

      During the overhaul in the bathroom, the question of choosing a new bath was especially acute. Despite the huge range of products, the choice fell on the acrylic bathtub of the Czech manufacturer. Although the cost of these products is slightly higher compared to classic cast-iron bathtubs, acrylic bathtubs have more significant advantages due to their light weight, low thermal conductivity and relative ease of installation.

      Earlier I was a little embarrassed by the delicacy of this product, however, making sure from my own experience, I can safely say that the strength of acrylic bathtubs is no worse than metal. In principle, everyone has the right to choose.

      But I just can not get used to the new acrylic bath. Bought expensive and angular, there is a hydromassage. There are so many amenities, and there is more space in the bathroom, but as soon as I see it, I immediately remember our solid heavy cast-iron bathtub. If there were so many new-fashioned fixtures in a cast-iron bathtub, it would be possible to choose a form, then I would definitely choose a cast-iron one.
