What paint to use for painting cast-iron plumbing

Good day. I am a designer. I want to paint the old cast-iron sink black or dark gray. Good condition. Now she is white. Tell me, is it possible so that later it can be used for its intended purpose? If yes, what is needed for this, what kind of paint, enamel should be used to do it yourself? Thank you

Good afternoon, Katya.

More recently, only two types of enamels were used for staining bathtubs - with a base in the form of epoxy or acrylic resin. If you decide to dwell on one of these options, then keep in mind that working with the first composition is much easier, since mixing a viscous acrylic base with a liquid hardener causes certain difficulties.

From modern means for the restoration of bathtubs, pallets, sinks and other metal plumbing, we can recommend special multi-component paints of a matte, semi-gloss and glossy type. Some manufacturers produce so-called painting systems, which include acrylic enamel and a special waterproofing primer. The Tikkurilla (Luja series), Dulux (RealifeKitchen & Bathroom) sets, as well as the acrylic compound, known in retail chains under the name Stalkril, proved to be quite good.

It is important not to forget that the quality of the paint is only 50% success. The other half of the successful outcome of your restyling will depend on how thoroughly the abrasive cleaning, degreasing and dust removal of the bath surface is carried out. Otherwise, even the most expensive paint system from a well-known brand will crack and peel off during operation.
