Why is the water meter spinning?
Good day! We draw water to a private house from the central water supply, we have the end point, the meter is in the well on the street (not yet at home), from the well to the house there are 20 meters of pipe, at the end there is a tap. When it is closed, 0.003 cubic meters after 9 hours at night, 0.001 cubic meters per 1 hour from 9 to 10 in the morning, the asterisk on the counter can sometimes move. Why is this happening? Need to install a pressure regulator in front of the meter?

Hello Maria! The meter itself cannot spin, which means that there is a small flow of water through the device. Most likely, the ball valve at the end of the line gradually passes water. As for the sources of such water circulation, there can be several:
- A drain tank with a float valve that gradually poisons the fluid.
- A water heater whose check valve has a malfunction or is missing.
- Faulty mixer through which fluid flows from one water system to another, etc.
To eliminate the phenomenon of “spontaneous” rotation of the counter, it is sufficient to determine the weakest link and replace the defective parts. As you yourself noted, it is necessary to install a pressure regulator at the input, and a quality check valve is required. After that the phenomena described by you with absolute probability will be eliminated.
