What to do if the toilet is leaking
Hello.
We have leaking toilet. We called the emergency service. They told us to call the plumbing to change the capacitor. Now it’s too late to call the master. Therefore, we blocked the water in the toilet, but it still leaks a little. What should we do to stop the flow and why is this happening?

Hello, Veronica.
The toilet may leak for the following reasons:
- misregistration, breakage or wear of drain valve parts;
- malfunctions in the intake valve;
- loss of tightness at the junction of the drain tank and toilet bowl.
In the first case, a leak is most often associated with wear of the rubber seal (cuff) located on the drain valve. At the same time, water flows into the toilet constantly, since its supply in the tank is immediately replenished due to the operation of the inlet fittings. It is also necessary to carefully inspect the elements of the drain mechanism - perhaps the malfunction is associated with their breakage or wear.
In the second case, the cause of the trouble is most often the wear of the intake valve membrane, because of which it cannot completely block the fluid entering the tank. Because of this, the tank overflows, and excess water flows into the sewer through the overflow channel. In addition, the cause of annoying murmur may be a float that has lost its tightness, a breakdown of the drain mechanism, or a change in the adjustment of the liquid level in the tank.
If the leakage appears in puddles on the floor near the plumbing fixture, then the gasket installed at the place where the tank adjoins the bowl is to blame. Try to tighten the mount a little - normal is enough to restore the tightness of the connection. If this does not help, then remove the tank and install a new cuff. You can buy a suitable seal in any plumbing store. Do not forget to take the worn gasket with you - so you can choose the part that will fit the model of the toilet you have installed.
