An oily liquid drips from the heating battery

Tell me, please, what kind of oily liquid can drip from a disconnected battery, rarely and a few drops in one place. Not from the pipe, namely in the center of the battery, there is no damage or rust. Thank.

Good afternoon, Inna.

Despite the fact that you forgot to indicate the type of battery in your question, we will try to help you deal with the problem that has arisen. Most likely, we are talking about a modern aluminum or bimetallic thermal device, which consists of several sections. The very same drops of liquid are talking about this - most often they appear in the place where the individual parts of the radiator are joined together. The oily liquid is the product of the interaction of the alloys used, the sealing material and water. There is no rust for the simple reason that aluminum alloys corrode in an alkaline environment in a completely different way - with the appearance of aluminates in the form of a white powder.

Most likely, the cause of the leak is a factory defect or damage to the radiator during transportation. If the battery has not yet reached the warranty period, it is best to replace it with another one. Otherwise, it remains to hope that over time, the gap formed will be delayed by metal oxides and salts dissolved in water, after which the leak will be eliminated by itself.
