How to change the crane box, given its size

Good day to you. There is a question. The faucet box on the hot water valve changed in the mixer, now I plan to change it on the shower switch. Question: axle box in the valves. Horizontal / cold. should the water be the same size as the axle box in the shower switch?

Good afternoon, Eugene!

The fact is that crane axles only used in the design of hot and cold water taps for valve mixers. In shower switches, locking mechanisms of a slightly different type are used:

  • cork - in the form of a brass cork with slots;
  • push-button - with a valve, which, depending on the position, blocks the flow of water to the spout or shower head;
  • eccentric - consist of a rod with an offset protrusion, which, when turned, activates a barrel with sealing gaskets;
  • ball - include a hollow ball, the rotation of which opens a channel to the soul or gander;
  • cartridge - consist of ceramic plates with channels that redirect the flow of water in one direction or another when shifting.

Perhaps you have installed just the last option - in its design it is closest to the modern ceramic crane-axle box.

If we talk about the causes of malfunctions, then in cork switches the leak most often appears due to uneven wear of the friction surfaces. Perhaps the breakdown can be eliminated by a layer of silicone grease. Otherwise, the parts will have to be replaced.

The weak point of push-button fittings is a set of rubber rings mounted on the valve. To solve the problem, it is enough to replace the elastic structural elements. If the button mechanism itself is broken due to excessive force when pressed, it will be more difficult to find a suitable node.

In eccentric mechanisms, the mixer most often does not switch to a shower due to a breakdown of the eccentric or wear of the barrel-guide pair - new elements will be needed for repairs. Partial overlapping of a particular channel, as well as leakage through the stem, occurs due to wear of the sealing gasket or rubber seal. In this case, the repair is carried out elementary and will cost a penny.

As for ball and cartridge mixers, with good quality tap water, they almost never fail. If for some reason this still happened, we recommend that you replace the complete assembly - it will not work to repair it.
