How to contain a non-operational Ariston water heater

Accumulative electric water heater such as Ariston, if it is not used for 3-6 months, how best to save it: drain the water or just replace it and keep it with water.

Hello, Elena. To increase the life of the water heater, draining the water is not recommended. The fact is that oxygen is required for corrosion processes inside the device. In water, this chemical element is mainly in a bound state (H molecule2O), not to mention the moist environment that forms inside the appliance after removing water. In the latter case, corrosion will go much faster.

It is also important that the magnesium rod, which is located inside the tank, takes on the entire shock, entering into the reaction and binding particles harmful to the steel tank. But this is only when the water heater is filled with water. In an empty vessel, it will be useless.

So that the water does not stagnate, it can be periodically disinfected by heating to a high temperature. Periodic fluid replacement is not recommended, as this causes a constant movement of oxygen dissolved in water, which is necessary for the corrosion process.

And the last: if you are ready to drain the water, disassemble the tank and completely dry it, then this will be an ideal option, although the most time-consuming.
