How to install a concealed mixer (in a wall) yourself?

Good day! I was going to install a concealed mixer in the bathroom. I want to carry out all the work myself, but I just can’t find information anywhere, which I will have to face. How complicated is the installation process for such equipment?

Flush mounted mixer

Hello! The concealed mixer is an excellent choice. But you need to understand that such equipment is more complex than traditional devices. Accordingly, their installation will be more time-consuming. First of all, you should know that the flush-mounted mixer is a device consisting of three elements:

  • Mounting box. This part is designed to fully install the system and ensure its reliable service.
  • Functional part. Actually a mixer. Models combined with a thermostat are available.
  • Decorative exterior panel. It provides an attractive appearance of the device and is responsible for its functionality, since a flow switch and a control lever are fixed on it.

Installation method

There is simply no universal way to install such mixers, since there are many options for models of the mounting box, which are selected depending on the type of mixing unit. That is why most often this work is trusted by specialists. But even in this case, it is best for the customer to have an idea of the quality installation process. It will be easier to control the activities of the master.

Installation procedure

In general terms, the installation is carried out in the following order:

  • We study the manufacturer's instructions. Only in this way can competent installation be carried out and problems with incorrect construction work can be avoided.
  • Determine the place where the mixer will be installed, and the scheme of its functioning. That is, a complete wiring, starting with an incoming water supply and ending with a shower tap or spout. Do the markup.
  • Strob the necessary holes. We will need to fulfill a niche for the installation box and shtrobs for the wiring pipes. We work with a drill with a special nozzle or punch. In the finished holes we lay the bends and pipes.
  • Install the mounting box. It should be noted that the presence of the box itself varies depending on the selected mixer model. It may turn out that the design is not included in the equipment package and needs to be purchased, or that it is simply not needed during installation. The presence and necessity of mounting the box should be clarified by the consultant upon purchase.
  • Install the mixer. We mount the equipment inside the box or directly into the niche in its absence. The device is fixed in the box using special clamps or screws. Wall-mounted models feature a thickening on the back that helps them stay in place. Strictly following the recommendations of the instructions, we alternately connect the equipment using special hoses.
  • Check the performance of the system. Open the stopcock on the riser and let the water run. Carefully inspect the node for leaks. We also check the correct connection of cold and hot water, the quality of the water mixture at the outlet and the possibility of adjustments.
  • Install the outer part. The procedure is carried out after the finishing coating is laid on the wall. The plastic edge of the device should protrude 2 mm above the level of the wall covering. We install and fix the external panel. All seams should be treated with silicone in a quality manner, so it will be possible to increase the level of waterproofing. Installation of the flush-mounted mixer is completed.

The installation procedure itself is quite simple. The main difficulty is in the selection and fixing of the installation box. And here you need to know about some of the nuances. Flush-mounted mixers are available from many European manufacturers. Individual boxes have traditionally been developed for each model. Special for the thermostat, for the mixer and for each size, which led to the appearance of four to five options for the box equipment. Naturally, this is completely inconvenient.
