Hello!

Margarita, the occurrence of an unpleasant odor from a septic tank can be caused both by the mistakes made during its construction, and by improper operation. The most common causes of inconvenience are:

  • lack of a fan pipe for exhaust gases;
  • the death of bacteria provoked by the discharge of effluents with a high content of chlorine-containing or other disinfectant chemicals;
  • incorrect adjustment of the aerator, if its presence is implied by the design of the septic tank;
  • discharge of a large number of surfactants that provoked the appearance of a foam cap on the drains - it reduces the activity of bacteria;
  • the septic tank has not been serviced for a long time.

Since in most cases the fetid odor is associated with the vital activity of bacteria, care must be taken to ensure that aggressive chemistry does not enter the drain. To do this, it is enough to use detergents marked “Bio”. You can restore the population of microorganisms using special means for septic tanks, which can be found in the distribution network.
