Good day, Michael!
Surface preparation for enamel painting depends on the nature of the work performed. In the case of painting metal structures of various household structures, sandpaper with a grain size of P200-P400 will suffice. If you need to stain critical elements, then you should take material with a grain size of at least 30 microns, which corresponds to P500 abrasive. For example, grinding car body parts requires the use of sandpaper with a grain size of P600 or P800. Eliminate work flaws and sagging by grinding with abrasive paper or cloth P1000-P2500 with subsequent polishing.
If your question is about painting wooden surfaces, then for polishing the massif, timber, etc., use material with a grain of P180 or P180, and for preparing MDF - use sandpaper of at least P220 grade.
