At what distance should the gas column be installed

Hello. Please tell me, how many inches should there be free space on the sides of the gas column? We were told that in the corner should not hang. We have 6 cm free space there.

Olga, good afternoon.

Flowing gas water heaters belong to type “B” heat generators. The installation standards for such equipment are regulated by the applicable building codes and rules “Gas supply. SNiP 2.04.08-87. "

Paragraph 6.39 of the Rules explicitly states that the installation of gas heating boilers, heating devices and gas water heaters should be carried out on surfaces of non-combustible materials at a distance of at least 10 centimeters from the side wall.

Therefore, the statement of the gas service experts that the gas column cannot be placed in the corner does not correspond to reality. But the argument that a 6 cm gap does not provide adequate security can be a serious obstacle to installing a water heater in a selected place.
