Why the toilet button does not sink to the end and to completely drain it must be kept

Previously, when you clicked on the button on the drain tank fittings, the button was drowned to the end and the entire volume of water in the tank was drained. Now the water is partially drained, only for the period of forced pressing and holding the drain button. To make a complete drain of water from the tank, you need to hold the drain button for a few seconds. What regulates or establishes the normal mode of water discharge and described above?

Good day, Sergey!

To eliminate the cause of the malfunction, you will have to remove the tank cap. Most often, it does not have additional fasteners and is prevented from shifting by a single button, which must be unscrewed counterclockwise. After accessing the inside, carefully inspect the drain mechanism drive. Unfortunately, you did not specify its type, so we will try to describe a way to fix the problem on one of the common designs (see the figure below).

Scheme of a typical flush toilet bowl

Very often, the malfunction described by you arises due to spontaneous displacement of the pressure rod. In the figure, it is represented by a red part. In addition, excessive force when pressing the button could provoke a shift of the locking ring (round part of blue color). Less commonly, this type of trouble happens when you move the drain switch tab (it is indicated by an arrow).

In this case, it is simple to repair the drain mechanism - it is enough to fix the stem one or two divisions higher, install the stopper in the recess on the body of the inner pipe, and return the tongue to its place.

If the malfunction is caused by damage to parts of the drain valves, they can be tried to be repaired with epoxy resin or the entire assembly can be replaced. Fortunately, the drain mechanism has a low cost, and you can find it in any building market.

Do not rush to blame without understanding. Incomplete drainage, and, as a result, the need to hold the tank button occurs precisely for the reasons mentioned above. And more specifically, due to jamming of the mode switch half / full drain or insufficient length of the pressure rod - these malfunctions provoke insufficient opening of the drain valve, because of which it is not fixed in the upper position. The expert described to you the troubleshooting of the drain valves, which are used in most drain tanks. Perhaps you have a rarer drainage mechanism with an air valve installed and there are some peculiarities of adjustment. It is no coincidence that the article provides a drawing of drain valves - it is for mechanisms of this type that specialist advice is suitable.

The expert answer is not correct.
The fault of the fact that the button must be kept for a complete drain is that the float does not work - the lock is at the bottom.
You need to remove the fittings, shake it, and make sure that this damn float began to lock the rack in the upper position.
In short, this is a marriage, fittings that can work or not, nothing depends on you.
Tired of understanding, a lot of nerves.

      Not an expert.

When I assembled the system after cleaning, I put the locking rubber upside down. The effect was just that ...
