Why does the Wilo PW-175E pump shut off

The self-priming pump PW-175E or EA, has been running for 3 years, and recently it has started to turn off (you wash the dishes, and the water has run out). The spouse will stir something up, the water will run, after a while no one goes again: neither cold nor hot. Please tell me the reason.

Reasons for the Wilo PW-175E to shut down spontaneously and troubleshooting options

Hello Marina!

There may be several reasons for this issue:

  1. Thermal protection trips (low or high voltage may be the reason). What can be done to solve:
    • Check the connection at the pump terminals, no submarine wire should turn on the terminal, the connection must be said to be tight. If the wire is not fully pulled, then due to poor contact it will warm up and the protection will work.
    • Check the connection in the loop (at home it is usually a switchboard in which the meter is installed, and circuit breakers / “automatic machines.” The pump station is often connected to a separate automatic machine).
    • If possible, a fully electric circuit should ring, from the machine to the pump (the pump itself must be turned off).
    • You can check the voltage in the network with a multimeter or voltmeter.

Explanation: Poor contact is easy to detect by ear. The wire, if it does not have a good connection, simply heats up, while the pump may not produce an even sound of work, but an explosive one.

  2. Perhaps the capacitor burned out, and then it is better to contact the service. If you have experience replacing a capacitor, then replace it yourself.
  3. Jamming of the impeller can also occur, it is better to contact a service center too, since if you are not an expert on this technique, having disassembled the mechanical part, you may simply not assemble it yourself. And the reason for jamming the wheels is better to eliminate the specialist.

Note: the pump has an overheat protection relay, but I do not recommend regulating such a relay at home either. By setting the wrong parameters, you run the risk of losing the pump, it just burns.
