From what moment is the water meter verification period considered?

The common house water meter was released in 2014, and installed in the system in 2016. The verification period is 6 years. Did the contractor rightly install this counter?

Expert Answer

Hello, Vladimir.

Your contractor did not violate a single federal law, even though in this situation it turned out that the time before calibration of the device in the metrological service was actually reduced by two years.

Such unpleasant situations are caused by the imperfection of the legislation in the field of operation of household fixation and accounting devices. While, logically, the countdown to verification should begin from the moment the device was put into operation, the manufacturer indicates in the passport for the product that the first calibration interval begins from the moment the meter was manufactured at the factory.

After the time of “legitimate” operation of the device, we recommend that you refuse to verify and install a new water meter with a fresh production date - the difference in money will be small. If your old meter is unsuitable for use, then you still have to pay for the verification.
