Instead of a rag - what can not be washed floors

Sometimes people, wanting to save on a special rag or mop, use an old T-shirt as a floor towel or someone else's. However, there are reasons why you should not do this - not only superstitious, but also quite rational.
Superstitions regarding mopping other things

Previously, of course, there was no superstition about mopping old clothes - people just didn't do it
It is believed that you can not wash the floors with an old towel. How do superstitions explain this? In Russia, a towel was a frequent requisite for magical conspiracies and rituals. They said that it absorbs the essence and energy of the person (or the whole family) who uses it. Therefore, neglect of the towel is necessarily (from the point of view of superstition) punishable by any misfortune.
Most often, the hostess, who dared to wipe the floor with an old towel, predicted quarrels in the family. If the woman was free, then she was prophesied by the absence of a spouse until the end of her life. It was said that mopping with such a cloth also washed the well-being of the family.
Superstitious people are very fond of the game with the words "wash", "wash". Almost any bad omen where washing is present is explained by the “washing out” of happiness, money or love from home.
Now, in the era of fast fashion, when people have a bag of worn and old things every year, signs have begun to spread to clothes. Now superstitious people forbid to use not only towels for mopping, but also old t-shirts or any other wardrobe items. The reasons are still the same - the energy has been absorbed, happiness and love will be washed away, the family will fall out.
Rational explanation
But signs are not the only reason why an old towel or T-shirt is poorly performing the role of a floor rag. Terry towels because of their structure absorb water very well, but are difficult to squeeze out. Because of this, stains will flaunt on the washed floor.
Synthetic t-shirts are also not suitable for this task. They, on the contrary, retain water too poorly, and therefore are not able to clean the dirt from the floor. Flannel and cotton are quite another matter. They do a good job of washing floors, because the structure of the fabric allows it to absorb a moderate amount of water without leaking at the same time.
Another reason is emotional. If you are going to use someone else's T-shirt to clean the floor, then its former owner may not like it. When choosing a new floor rag from an old wardrobe, be sure to ask permission from the household to whom it previously belonged - is this a memorable gift? And some people may just be offended by the fact that they wipe the floor with their clothes. And then superstition will come true - abuse cannot be avoided.
If there is no possibility or desire to buy a special rag for mopping, then it is better to choose a replacement for it among old cotton or flannel t-shirts. But it is better to refuse towels - they are not suitable for this task.
