What happens if you pour “Coca Cola” into the toilet?

Many people are interested in what will happen if you pour Coca-Cola into the toilet. This popular plumbing cleaning hack became popular thanks to YouTube. And what’s most interesting - it really works.

What happens if you pour Coca-Cola into the toilet?

Contrary to expectations, nothing supernatural will happen: the water in the toilet will not boil, it will not splash on you. But if you leave the soda without washing off immediately, you can see how the toilet becomes cleaner. And the frightening “chemistry” of urban legends has nothing to do with it.

Carbonated drinks are not really good for health, but the same can be said for most foods. Cola has become an effective cleaning agent due to the presence of carbonic acid (it is it that creates characteristic bubbles in any soda). This substance is formed by the interaction of carbon dioxide with air and really knows how to clean complex pollution.

If the family has small children, it is worth using soda to clean the plumbing. Effective cleaning products are always quite toxic, especially for a developing organism. Cola has no harmful fumes. In addition, it is much cheaper than most chemicals.

How to clean the toilet with soda

Soda is used just like any cleaning agent. It is evenly poured on the inner surface of the plumbing fixture and left for at least 1.5–2 hours. Then rinse with plain cold water.

For cleaning, a half-liter can of drink is enough, but if the coating is heavily “eaten”, then the process will have to be repeated at least 3 times. "Cola" is more effective than many cleaning products, but even on the first attempt it will not cope with a multi-month lime deposit.

For effective removal of contaminants, four important nuances should be taken into account:

  1. Before cleaning, scoop up as much water as possible from the toilet bowl. Soda can not clean the plaque that is under water.
  2. The tank should not leak into the bowl. If such a problem is present, you must first drain all the fluid. Water washes away the active substances - not only at Coca-Cola, but also with real cleaners.
  3. Oily spots do not remove greasy stains. It will help get rid of limescale, urinary stone and rust, but the fat will have to be cleaned by other means.
  4. To achieve maximum effect, Coca-Cola is left on the walls of the toilet for the whole night. The next night the process is repeated.Coca Cola in the toilet

Possible harm

Coca-Cola, like any soda, has a lot of sugar. Glucose will remain inside the toilet after cleaning and create a breeding ground for bacteria and other microorganisms. This is the only harm that plumbing can do. To eliminate the unpleasant consequences, you can do the following:

  • treat the toilet after cleaning with an antibacterial drug;
  • just buy a sweetener drink.

With carbonated lime, urinary stone and other complex contaminations of the toilet bowl, any carbonated drinks are excellent. In addition to the cheapest - they have the least carbonic acid. There is currently no direct evidence that the stake is truly the most effective. If desired, it can be replaced by Fanta, Sprite or any other soda from a comparable price category. These drinks are perfect for cleaning plumbing.
