3 ways to fix a wall plug falling out of a wall

The dowel most often falls out of their loose wall. When driven, fasteners crumble material and do not hold tight. What methods will help solve this problem will be described in this article.

When re-fixing the dowel is required

Often the fasteners in the wall hang out, even if they used a suitable drill for the hole. Because of this, a self-tapping screw or screw scrolls with the dowel. In this case, it is better to take a drill with a smaller diameter. For example, for a screw of 8 mm. you need to make a recess with a diameter of 6 mm. When driven in, the mount will fit in tightly and will not scroll.

Too short fasteners fall out under heavy load. For example, a 3 cm long mount will not withstand a massive hanging cabinet. If it does not fall out immediately, then it will do so with time. The problem is solved by replacing with a longer mount. To prevent the shelves and cabinets from falling, fasten the drop-out dowel in a soft wall during installation.

Best remedies

There are many ways to fix the mount. Masters advise to wrap the dowel with a damp plaster bandage or polyethylene, use wooden choppers, fill the hole too wide with hot glue or liquid nails. Reliably hold fasteners putty, epoxy resin, repair cloth.

Putty

Suitable if the funnel is large, and the wall around it has cracked. It is better to take a glue putty. After solidification, a dense cork is obtained. In addition, it is easy to apply.

What should be done:

  1. Screw the screw into the dowel.
  2. Moisten the wall surface and spray holes.
  3. Apply the finished putty with a spatula if the hole is not deep.
  4. Clean up the excess.
  5. Until the cork has frozen, put a screw in it.

Use a disposable syringe to quickly fill deep holes. The fastening can only be loaded after full setting.

Epoxy resin

Putty can be replaced by epoxy or glue. To make the mass plastic, add filler. Which is suitable:

  • chopped fiberglass;
  • fine sand;
  • sawdust;
  • ground cotton fiber;
  • silverfish.

The mixture should be viscous and elastic. Make small balls. Push them into the hole with the blunt end of a pencil or other suitable object.

Epoxy adhesive is best suited for metal dowels. It is degreased and inserted into the hole filled with mass. After that, a screw is screwed. You can use the mount after 12 hours, when the glue completely hardens.

Repair Napkin

Designed specifically for cases where the funnel in the wall is too large for the dowel. Suitable for fastening in concrete, brick, aerated concrete. The rounded napkin is coated with a special composition. To make it work, moisten it. Wrap the plastic mount and insert the entire structure into the funnel. After three minutes, screw in the screw.

Operating procedure

Regardless of the material chosen and the method of fastening, follow the fastening steps:

  1. Drill the wall with a drill less than the diameter of the dowel by 1-2 mm.
  2. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the groove of dust and lime chips.
  3. Insert a sealant or wrap fasteners.
  4. Drive in the pin until the seal is frozen.
  5. Screw the screw to the desired depth and let it dry completely.

Try not to make a hole too large initially. Do not drill a loose wall with a hammer drill. From the shocks the funnel will turn out more than necessary. Use only right angle drilling. If the surface begins to crumble, immediately apply fixing methods for the dowel.

      The best “dowel” for a self-tapping screw is a wooden chop, it’s better from aspen, I have been using it for more than 35 years, and it has never failed me.
