Choosing a hot tub and the nuances of proper care

Choosing a hot tub and the nuances of proper care
For a while, a hydromassage bathtub was considered a sign of affluence and not everyone could afford it. Now, the diversity of hydromassage systems and the well-thought-out pricing policy of manufacturing companies simplifies the choice of a hydromassage bath, putting it in the rank of a thing that is completely accessible to everyone. Hydrotherapy, or the use of water for medicinal purposes, is a common method of relaxation and recovery, known since the 1st century BC. e. In those days, in ancient Rome, it was customary to visit unusual public baths - baths, where water massage originated, as an exquisite pleasure for the elite. In the 60s, the Jacuzzi company, armed with technological advances, replicated the ancient custom of water therapy, launching the first hydromassage bathtubs.

Hot Spring - Hot Tub

Take a look around - almost everything that is created by man is made “in the image and likeness” of natural phenomena. For the construction of aircraft borrowed aerodynamics of birds, for the design of cars - flexible and rapid forms of predatory animals.

As well as for many things that surround us, a “prototype” for a hydromassage bath was a rare natural phenomenon - a geothermal spring that expels hot water from the bowels of the earth under pressure. Let's look at what hydromassage equipment for bathtubs allows you to create a home "thermal spring", whose warm massaging waters will heal your body and improve vitality.

Geothermal spring

The surface of the Champagne Pool geothermal spring in New Zealand is covered with small bubbles of boiling water

The vent of the geothermal spring leads to the deep layers of the earth's crust with unreeling volcanic magma. Due to this, the source constantly maintains a high water temperature, sometimes reaching up to 100 degrees Celsius.

Construction device and principle of operation

The main unit of the hydromassage system, its “heart”, is an electric pump that is designed to maintain a continuous circulation of water in the system. The pump directs water to the nozzles (jets) located at the bottom and in the walls of the bath. The nozzle is a metal or plastic lining of a round shape with numerous holes. Due to this design, the nozzle forms a sprayed stream of water, gently massaging that part of the body to which it is directed.

Schematic diagram of a hot tub

The hot tub is a complex system consisting of a pump, compressor, pipe system, a set of nozzles and a control unit

A more complex hot tub arrangement involves connecting an air compressor that runs in parallel with the pump. The compressor mixes air into the stream of water and directs it to miniature jets embedded in the bottom of the bathtub. Mini-jets release streams of air bubbles, creating the effect of a delicate air massage.

Rotary nozzle

The rotational nozzle creates a spiral-shaped flow of water, enhancing the efficiency of the hydromassage

Turning on, off, adjusting the intensity of the hydromassage performs a pneumatic or automatic control unit. Depending on the principle of its device, pneumatic buttons or an electronic touch screen are used to select the operating mode of the hot tub.

Before starting the whirlpool system, it is necessary to fill the bathtub with water, in order to avoid the so-called “dry start”, which can lead to breakdown of the system.

What to look for when buying?

When buying a spa bath, first of all, you need to decide on its size and shape. For small bathrooms, compact rectangular bathtubs with standard sizes of 1600x700 mm or 1500x750 mm are best suited. Corner or freestanding bathtubs of a square and round shape need more space, so they look spectacular in bulky rooms. The next important moment of buying a spa bath is the choice of material from which its bowl is made. It is best if the bathtub is made of fiberglass-reinforced acrylic (Teuco, Jacuzzi), innovative vinyl (Villeroy & Boch), modified translucent acrylic (Albatros). When choosing a bath bowl, you should also pay attention to the presence of handrails, armrests and a headrest.

Teuco was the first to equip its whirlpool with an innovative ultrasound massage system that has a profound effect on the human body.

The choice of the hot tub mainly consists in correlating the financial possibilities with the desired configuration of the massage system of the bath. The budget option in this regard is a hydromassage system with a pump with a capacity of about 700 watts, six side nozzles and a pneumatic control system. The cost of the bath will increase significantly if an air massage system with 12 mini-jets is added to this set, and the pump power increases to 1 kW. At its maximum configuration, the hydromassage bath includes all types of aero- and hydromassage (back, side, foot), automatic control, disinfection and ozonation system, backlight and color therapy (chromotherapy).

Hot tub lighting

Halogen recessed luminaires or LED backlight with rgb filters will create a unique glow in the spa bath

Color has a positive effect on the human psyche. Green relieves internal tension, red energizes, yellow lifts the mood, blue calms.

Useful additional options:

  • Integrated non-return valve in nozzles to prevent water from entering the system.
  • Monitoring the set water temperature using the built-in thermostat.
  • System of automatic shutdown at current leakage.
  • Dry start protection system.

How to care for a hot tub?

Hot tubs are usually made of acrylic, sometimes made of cast iron or steel. Due to the fact that acrylic is a smooth material, contaminants do not particularly stay on its surface. Therefore, the care of the hot tub is quite simple - you must regularly wash the bath with special liquid detergents that do not contain abrasive additives.

The effect of the hot tub

Enveloping pleasant warmth, unobtrusive hydromassage is a moment of relaxation from the hassle and bustle of everyday life

Closer attention and care are required for hydromassage systems for bathtubs, which accumulate calcareous deposits and pathogenic bacteria during operation. When buying a hot tub, you can include an additional disinfection option in its package, which, of course, will affect the cost of the bathroom, but will simplify the process of caring for it.If there is a disinfection system, approximately once a month it is necessary to fill in a special liquid in the container provided for this.

If the hot tub is equipped with an air massage, disinfection is recommended after each use. The nozzles and the water supply system are cleaned automatically when the corresponding program is started on the control panel. If there is no disinfection option, you can pour the cleaning agent directly into the filled bath bowl and turn on the hydromassage system. At the end of the bath disinfection, it is necessary to fill it with clean water and start the hydromassage system for 5-10 minutes to wash off the remnants of cleaning products.
