Water seal for a well or how to quickly and competently close a gap in a concrete ring

To protect clean well water from possible contamination with groundwater containing harmful impurities, various waterproofing materials are used. The joints between the rings, the places of the tie-in of engineering communications into the well shaft, as well as the defects that appeared during the operation in the body of reinforced concrete products, require special sealing. A water seal for a well can quickly eliminate leaks - a quick-hardening material that can return solidity to a structure within a few minutes. When buying this material, you should pay attention to the availability of a certificate confirming the safety of the components that make up the hydro seal for drinking water.
This video demonstrates how to use the Waterplag / Peneplag seals. Materials from other manufacturers that are produced for the instant elimination of pressure leaks are used in a similar way.
However, they must be used in accordance with the attached instructions.
How to prepare a solution to eliminate leaks?
When preparing the solution yourself, you must be guided by the manufacturer's recommendations. The amount of dry mix is taken depending on how active the leak is. Usually, 150 grams of water is taken per kilogram of water seal for a well. Otherwise, the proportion is calculated based on the volume of the components, while five parts of the mixture are taken for each part of the water.
Important! If the pressure of the leak is significant, then the proportion of ingredients in the solution is changed, increasing the amount of the dry mixture in the solution to seven parts (water refers to the mixture as one in seven).
The temperature of the water taken to prepare the solution should be + 20 ° C. After a quick batch, the time of which should not exceed 30 seconds, a solution is obtained that looks like dry ground. Immediately a large amount of solution cannot be kneaded, since it instantly sets. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare the mixture in parts, after applying one of them to the leak area, proceed to the preparation of the next.
How to seal the flow with the prepared solution?
First, prepare the surface for work, for which they release the internal cavity of the leak from loose exfoliated concrete with a jackhammer.
The place of occurrence of the leak is embroidered to a width of 25 mm and a depth of 50 mm, a little deeper. The shape of the hole should resemble a funnel.
Then, in a clean container, the necessary amount of mixture is mixed to seal the leak. Hands form a lump from the solution, which is pressed into the embroidered hole with a sharp movement, and held for several minutes (2-3 minutes are enough).
Important! A water seal for wells made of reinforced concrete rings, stone, brick, can be applied to both vertical and horizontal surfaces.Note that it is not necessary to erect the formwork. If the hole has an oblong shape and is not muffled at a time, then its sealing is from top to bottom.
Where else are seals used?
With the help of quick-hardening solutions, it is possible to effectively fight:
- with water leaks from reinforced concrete tanks;
- with water breakthroughs in basements, tunnels, mines, adits, galleries;
- with defects arising in the bowl of pools and other artificial reservoirs;
- with capillary leaks appearing in the area of interfacing of the floor and walls, between the foundation blocks, etc.
Work Precautions
The technology of using water seals for a well is not particularly difficult, and therefore can be performed by a novice master without the involvement of specialists. When working with the solution, hands are protected with gloves. After use, the tool is immediately washed from the remnants of the mixture, otherwise after final hardening it will be possible to clean it with difficulty only by mechanical means.
The cost of this waterproofing material is high, so not all companies involved in the construction and repair of drinking wells use it. When contacting specialized firms, clarify this question immediately, as other materials may not be as effective in dealing with leaks.
