Why seal the casing head?

Expert Answer

Victor, the borehole tip is needed in order to ensure the tightness of the wellhead with a pump installed in it. A welding machine is not needed for the assembly of this assembly, and all of its metal parts are galvanized to protect it from corrosion - the head is very easy to mount and is made taking into account operation in a humid environment.

Installing a sealing device allows you to solve a number of problems:

  • well isolation to prevent foreign objects and debris from entering it;
  • protection of the water supply system against the penetration of groundwater, as well as effluents generated during snowmelt or during heavy rains;
  • an increase in the debit of a shallow well due to the rarefaction created by a working deep pump;
  • work as a fulcrum for attaching the pump to a carabiner mounted on the bottom cover;
  • preventing the possibility of quick theft of equipment installed in the well due to the anti-vandal design with special fasteners;
  • the ability to reliably connect a pressure pipe;
  • additional protection of the well from low temperatures in winter.

Today, two types of heads are available - with a sleeve adapter and a hinged lid (in some cases removable). Metal sealing devices are made of steel and cast iron, so they are designed for mounting pumps weighing up to 500 kg. For the production of plastic heads, high-quality polymers are used, which allows them to withstand a load of up to 200 kg.

As you can see, there is no reason to refuse to install such a necessary device. With it, you can not only protect the well and ensure the purity of water, but also prepare a solid foundation for a simple, reliable, and most importantly, long-term fastening of the deep pump.
