How to insulate the floor of the balcony with foam without lag

Hello!

We are going to insulate the floor on the loggia, and in this connection I want to ask: is it possible to lay the insulation directly on concrete without equipping a wooden base? We plan to use Penoplex and we will be grateful for the advice and recommendations regarding the insulation of the balcony floor without lag.

Good afternoon, Artem!

Why not? In your case, several materials are suitable for warming the loggia, including fiberglass, stone and mineral wool plates. Of course, you should choose materials of increased rigidity. They cope well with compressive loads and have good thermal insulation properties. Another thing is that linen is often dried on the balcony, and increased humidity is the enemy of fiber insulation - when wet, they lose up to 80% of their thermal insulation properties. As for the heaters made of extruded polystyrene foam (to which Penoplex just refers), they are completely not afraid of moisture, have high compressive strength and retain thermal insulation properties for decades - you made the right choice.

Before starting work, the concrete base should be thoroughly cleaned of debris and dust, and then treated with any deep penetration soil (for example, Artisan No. 6). For the purpose of moisture protection, a basic layer of waterproofing is applied over the soil. Mastic or acrylic membrane of any manufacturer is suitable. Do not forget to cover the lower part of the walls with moisture insulation to the height to which the insulation pie will reach.

Plates of foam plastic are cut to size, after which a special glue is applied to the floor using a notched trowel. For the installation of foamed extruded polystyrene, mixtures such as Allfix, Ceresit CT-83, Titanium, etc. can be used. A thin layer of glue is also applied to the polystyrene foam board. After that, it must be pressed to the floor, pressed down with any load or fixed with plastic dowels with wide caps. After the entire surface is covered, the joints between the panels are filled with foam. You can make a concrete screed on top or lay OSB, chipboard, plywood and other materials.

In the end, I would like to note that with the installation of foam plastic you have a good opportunity to equip a warm floor on the balcony. You can find out how to do this here:https://aquatech.tomathouse.com/en/otoplenie/teplyj-pol/teplyj-pol-na-balkone.html
