Heating is required not only by premises. Often in chicken coops, sheds, greenhouses, you also need to maintain a stable temperature. If you like to tinker in the garage or you have a workshop where you do what you love, then most likely you know that it can be very cold there in the winter season. To build a full-fledged stove or to buy an electric heater is irrational. There is a cheaper solution - the bubafony oven. It can be heated with solid fuel at a time when it is necessary and turned off when it is not needed. Its popularity is very high. It belongs to long-burning furnaces and uses fuel economically, while giving up maximum heat. You can do it yourself.

Bubafon long burning furnace: description

The efficiency of a conventional wood-burning stove is 50%. The remaining half of the heat evaporates into the air. This happens for one simple reason, the name of which is pyrolysis (thermal decomposition in which combustible gases are formed). To ignite and give off heat, they need more time and higher temperatures than in a standard oven. Therefore, together with carbon dioxide, these gases leave irrevocably in the atmosphere. Pyrolysis Boilersoffered on the market have an efficiency of about 90%. They burn fuel at very high temperatures and rather slowly.

The standard pyrolysis boiler is a complex structure for self-manufacturing, requiring special equipment and skills. The bubafony stove is an ingenious prototype of this complex machine. It can be built independently without difficulty. It is ten times more economical, and the efficiency from it is no worse. An ideal fuel for it would be a mixture of wood and coal.

Features and principle of operation

Bubafon furnace

Here in such a simple way the bubafony works

  • The fuel in it burns like a candle, that is, from top to bottom. Firewood is stacked vertically, and sawdust is poured on them and paper is put for better kindling.
  • To pyrolysis gases burned to the end, the device is equipped with an air distributor in the form of a steel "pancake" with blades and a hole in the middle. This structure is somewhat similar to a piston.
  • The air distributor is removed and fuel is ignited from above. After the fuel flares up well, the air distributor is placed upstairs and the lid is put on the furnace body. After pouring a little kerosene, you can light the stove directly through the pipe.
  • Thermal decomposition of fuel occurs under the air distributor. Its weight compacts the fuel, the temperature rises and this very decomposition begins. In this case, combustible gases are released. The fuel burns down and the steel “pancake” drops, pressing it even more. Thus, the wood is not loosened and the temperature is maintained.
  • Gases burn above the surface of the steel “pancake”, and the efficiency increases by 20-30 percent.

  • The thrust of the stove is regulated by a valve located in the pipe of the air distributor. Oxygen passes into the hole between it and the lid. Due to the strong draft in the furnace, smoke practically does not escape through the openings formed between the body of the structure and its cover, as well as between the air regulator and the cover. The height of the chimney pipe, according to the advice of the owners of such structures, should be from 4 meters in height.

Necessary materials

The bubafon stove is quite simple. For its manufacture, you can use an old forty-liter gas cylinder or a two-liter barrel. The cylinder has less heat dissipation, and it works for about 8 hours. This option is suitable for small rooms.

From a gas cylinder, you can also make a potbelly stove for heating a garage. Detailed assembly instructions are presented in our material:https://aquatech.tomathouse.com/en/otoplenie/kotly/burzhujka-iz-gazovogo-ballona.html.

Well think over the place where you will install the stove. Despite the fact that it cools quickly, it reaches very high temperatures during operation.

The barrel is better in this regard. It can heat the room for up to two days and will perfectly cope with the heating of hangars, large workshops and so on.

Its unpresentable appearance needs to be slightly modified to be placed in a residential building. To do this, it can be overlaid with natural stone or bricks. In addition, they will become a kind of heat accumulators.

In addition, a couple of steel pipe fragments, a grinder, welding, a chisel, hacksaws for metal, electrodes and a chisel are useful to you in your work.

Stages of building a bubble buboni

Before the manufacture itself, you need to determine the dimensions of the furnace.

Balloon preparation

  1. Gently cut off the top. Save it. In the future, she will play the role of a cover.

  2. Weld a strip of steel to the body of the stove. This will be the side that will not allow the lid to move from the body.
  3. Now you need to make a clamping circle, thanks to which the fuel will be pressed down, and oxygen will enter the furnace, providing long burning.

  4. Take a thick (3-4 mm) sheet of steel and cut a circle out of it. Let's make an air distributor out of it. Its diameter should be slightly smaller than the main frame of the furnace. The gap between the edge of the air distributor and the walls of the gas cylinder is 1/20 of the pancake diameter. Make a hole in it in the middle. In order for the thrust to be effective, this hole should be at least 10 centimeters. Weld an air pipe to it. Its height should be 20 centimeters more than the body of the stove.

Depending on the size of the boiler body, the thickness of the metal plate is selected. If the gas cylinder has a diameter of 300 millimeters, the pancake should be 8-10 mm. And for a barrel of 200 liters, this thickness will be less (4-6 millimeters).

  5. At the bottom of the plate of the air distributor, weld 6 metal blades. They are needed so that the fuel burns evenly in the lower chamber, and the pyrolysis gases in the upper chamber burn completely.

Chimney and fuel filling place

  1. At the bottom of the frame, make a hole in the shape of a rectangle using a grinder. Weld the curtains and hang the door. To ensure complete tightness, cover the door with asbestos cord at the edges. A little lower in the same way you can make another door, but a little smaller. It will be convenient to clean the bubafon through it.

  2. To make a chimney, it is necessary to make a hole in the cover through which the exhaust gases will exit and the necessary draft will be created. The diameter of the pipe for it should be 10-15 centimeters. Smaller sizes are undesirable.
  3. Make a chimney bend from two pipes. Trim their edges at an angle of 45 degrees and weld together, forming an angle of 90 degrees.

It is not necessary to do the knee yourself. It can be purchased ready-made.

  4. All parts of the furnace are ready. Now you need to collect them together and load with fuel. Sawdust and paper can be poured onto the wood for faster and more convenient ignition.
If the stove is supposed to be heated not only with dry wood, then the pipe should be extended downward and a place should be made for condensate collection.

"Shirt" on bubafon

Such a furnace has many advantages: its cheapness, ease of creation, high efficiency. But there is a drawback to this design: it delivers heat unevenly. The output may be blowing it with a fan. But it is inconvenient. To solve this problem, a water “shirt” was invented. To create it, you will need another cylinder, whose diameter will be larger than the furnace body itself.

Jacket design

The project clearly shows the placement of the water “shirt” in the chimney and the connection of water and battery heating to it

In fact, a water “shirt” is a kind of improvement of the furnace, to which heating equipment can be brought. The “shirt” can be installed in two places: directly on the body and on the chimney pipe. Both places heat well. In order to put on this same “shirt”, you need to use a pipe of a larger diameter than the place where you are going to wear it. The open ends of the pipe must be carefully welded and welded into it the inlet pipe and the outlet, which will connect the heating devices. The principle of operation is simple. Water passes through the shirt, heats up and carries heat to the room.

Operational Features

  • Install the chimney so that it can be easily removed. It is often clogged.
  • Constantly monitor the operation of the furnace with a “jacket” due to strong heating of the structure.
  • If you want to color the stove, then use only heat-resistant paints.
  • Firewood should go to the size of the fuel part.
  • The use of liquids for ignition is not recommended. But if you decide to use them, then first spray a little on the firewood, and then load them into the furnace.
  • Use protective gloves to load fuel.
  • Items that are flammable should be stored away from the oven.
  • In no case should household waste be burnt in an oven. Including plastic.
  • It is recommended to start cooking food on such an oven only 10-15 minutes after it is fired.
  • If you decide to create this design, it is better to work in the fresh air.

The operating and safety rules should not be forgotten when using any heating equipment, including working out furnaces.Detailed installation instructions in our article:https://aquatech.tomathouse.com/en/otoplenie/documents/pech-na-otrabotke-svoimi-rukami.html.

Assembling such a furnace yourself is not difficult. Of course, visually she is not very attractive. But if you install it in a non-residential premises, and, say, in a garage, it will not matter. The main thing is that it is powerful enough to heat the room. And if you wanted to use such a structure for heating a house, then it can be beautifully bricked. In general, good luck!
