Do-it-yourself jacuzzi installation and connection to communications

The jacuzzi is a useful plumbing fixture for healing. The therapeutic effect in it is achieved by combining jets of water with air bubbles. Rising from the bottom of the bath, the bubbles create a geyser effect and thus an air massage of the body. The Jacuzzi was invented in the USA in the middle of the last century and until recently it was believed that only rich people could afford it. Today, in the age of high technology, already many of us can easily purchase a spa bath for our home. Only its installation, especially the correct installation, is not an easy task. The technology for installing a whirlpool bath has certain nuances, so it is better to entrust the specialist with the performance of this work. Nevertheless, it is necessary to get acquainted with it at least in order to competently check the work of the master, and even more so if you decide to personally take up this matter.
Preparatory phase before installation
Installation of a jacuzzi provides specific requirements for the bathroom itself, and even for the design of the house. It is advisable to take them into account when designing.
If you need to install a hot tub in a built house, then you should choose it taking into account the available data. In doing so, the following should be taken into account:
- the size of the jacuzzi should be such that it fits freely in the bathroom and, moreover, there should be enough space around it so that, if necessary, it can be extended to some distance (about 50 cm), it is impossible to integrate the jacuzzi tightly;
its shape must be commensurate with the placement. For example, a corner Jacuzzi will look good in the corner of a bathroom, a round one in the center, and an oval one will be closer to the wall.
Requirements for the bathroom where the jacuzzi will be installed:
- floors under the jacuzzi should be reliably steam and waterproof;
- the supporting structures of your house must support its weight in a filled state;
- the room should have sufficiently high ceilings and ventilation outlets.
Since the jacuzzi, compared to the usual bathroom for us, has a rather large weight, it is not regulated in height, but is installed strictly horizontally on a rigid frame made of pipes that are attached to the floor. Therefore, it is important to level the floor well before installing the spa bath.
The jacuzzi is connected simultaneously to 3 support systems: electricity, water supply and sewage. The water pressure for which the jacuzzi is designed is 4-5 atm. In water supply, this value usually does not happen anymore, but for reliable protection of hydromassage equipment, a pressure reducer must be installed.
Mixer taps in the hot tub are installed directly on the bath itself, and not on the adjacent wall, as is the case with conventional bathtubs.
According to the recommendations of specialists, water pipes should be located as close as possible to water consumption devices. In addition, it is necessary to provide easy access to the junction of the jacuzzi with the water pipe so that it can be easily disconnected if necessary.
Hydromassage equipment makes special demands on the water consumed. Filters for coarse as well as fine purification of tap water are installed without fail. Serious water filtration will prevent clogging of nozzles, which are very sensitive to the purity of the water used.
Installation and Connection Step-by-Step
- We put the bath on its feet in the chosen place. We set the height by level. For this we use adjusting bolts. Installation of a bathroom on a fixing frame is possible. Aligning strictly horizontally is not necessary, it is better to make a slope to the drain.
- We connect the drain system, following the manufacturer's instructions. Drain the water in the jacuzzi should be located at least 10 centimeters above the main drainage system. If this is not done, water from the hot tub will flow out very slowly.
- Do-it-yourself connection of the jacuzzi to the central water supply is carried out in the same way as for ordinary bathtubs. We seal all joints, if necessary, we seal them with gaskets.

- We provide a snug fit of the bath to the wall, if necessary, use a sealant. This will avoid unnecessary dampness and mold.
- For the built-in jacuzzi, you need to make removable panels to provide access to communications.
We connect a jacuzzi to an electric network
The most critical step in installing a jacuzzi is connecting to the mains. Water, as you know, is an excellent conductor of electricity, therefore, while connecting devices to the water supply and electrical networks, it is necessary to strictly observe the rules of electrical safety. And if installing a jacuzzi with your own hands is a real task, then it must be performed by a qualified master to connect it to the power supply.
So, work:
- de-energize the place of electrical work. Inside the apartment you need to turn off the switch. When working with an electrical panel, disconnect electricity from it;
- connect the bath to a grounded outlet using a three-wire cable. We install the outlet outside the bathroom so that it cannot be reached (at least 0.7-1m). You need to purchase a European-style outlet (with phase, zero and ground contact);
- we carry out the connection of the outlet to the electrical panel through a safety circuit breaker, as well as a residual current device (RCD). It is recommended that the RCD for this outlet be separate, and not common to the entire electrical network of the apartment.
The jacuzzi bath can also be connected using the switch included in its package. The switch must also be positioned at such a distance that, while in the jacuzzi, you cannot reach your hand.
When connecting the wires of the electric cable connected to the mains with the wires from the jacuzzi, it is important to ensure that this is done correctly: the cable zero was connected to the device’s neutral wire, the phase, respectively, with the phase, and grounding, with grounding. It is for this reason that the world’s single color designation of electric wires was established, depending on the purpose: zero - blue, phase - white, red or brown, grounding - yellow-green.
We check the correctness of installation work
Now that the jacuzzi is installed and connected, you need to check whether everything was done correctly:
- we check the correct installation of water purification filters and a pressure reducer;
- make sure that there is free access to all the mechanisms of the jacuzzi, pumps, compressors;
- once again check the electrical insulation. It is necessary that all parts of the bath in contact with electric current are placed in waterproof boxes;
- see if the RCD is installed, are all the wires connected correctly;
- then check the stability of the jacuzzi, swaying it or jumping in it;
we collect water in the bathroom and check the tightness of the drain, pipe connections for the absence or presence of leaks.

If all the work on installing the jacuzzi was carried out correctly, let the water go, plunge into the bathtub and enjoy the magic bubbles
If no problems were found, it means that the installation of the jacuzzi was successful, and it can safely be used for its intended purpose!
