Do-it-yourself well cleaning: manual and pumping methods + safety measures

Do-it-yourself well cleaning: manual and pumping methods + safety measures

Do-it-yourself well cleaning is not an easy and unsafe job. As for the regularity of its holding, it all depends on the inviolability of the structure, on the quality of the materials that were used to equip the well. And what manifestations indicate that the time has come for cleaning? For example, urgent "resuscitation" is needed if there is a strange aftertaste, smell or a rainbow film appears on the surface of the water. In addition, blockages formed at the bottom, a decrease in the useful volume of water - a clear sign that the time has come for cleaning. But let's talk about everything in order ...

How to find out that it’s time to clean the well?

All owners of country houses, summer cottages should understand that periodic cleaning is a mandatory process, since the operation of the well, as well as the quality indicators of water, depend on it. If the well is relatively small, everything can be done with your own hands, and if it is deep, it is better to turn to professionals for help.

Some people do not realize the importance of cleaning and put off this process until better times. But this is the wrong position, because people cannot see fresh, crystal clear and very tasty water then.

How to clean a well

In a cleaned well, water is much tastier

But how, in fact, to find out that the well needs to be cleaned? This question interests many, so we will give an extended answer to it. The following symptoms are meant:

  • lowering the level;
  • the appearance of clay deposits due to the penetration of surface water into the well;
  • the appearance of foreign objects in the mine - for example, it may be a bird accidentally falling into the water, garbage thrown by ill-wishers (alas, it happens);
  • muddy water - the reasons for this phenomenon are considered to be insufficient work of the bottom filter or depressurization of the seams;
  • stagnation of water with infrequent use of the well for its intended purpose;
  • ingress of sewage into the well - as a result, the water gets an unpleasant taste, smell.

After the snow has melted, it is advisable to sanitize using a special solution. A teaspoon of potassium permanganate is dissolved in a bucket of water and poured into a well, and after an hour, water is pumped out of the mine.

Safety measures for cleaning the well

If you decide to clean the well in the country, but you have never encountered this before, take note of the useful recommendations that can help protect you from various troubles. In particular, we are talking about such moments:

  • the well should be cleaned by at least three people, because in case of danger one person will not be able to pull another out of the mine;
  • to the belt you need to tie a safety cable;
  • Before starting work, make sure that there are no harmful gases in the well. To do this, you need to lower a bucket with a lit candle into the mine: if it burns at the bottom, then there are no harmful gases there;
  • if tools fall from above, it is necessary to cling to the walls of the well;
  • the use of marsh boots and a construction helmet will not be superfluous;
  • at the bottom of the well you can’t stand in one place for too long - your legs can suck.

If the well is deep (more than three meters) and a person suffers from heart diseases, it is better to charge someone else with cleaning, because at such a depth there is little oxygen.

And what tools and devices for cleaning wells need to be purchased?

  • Firstly, you need a rope or ordinary ladder, a safety belt.
  • Secondly, if the depth of the well is large and you can’t get by with one ladder, you can use a strong rope to which a piece of the board is tied (you get a kind of swing).
  • Thirdly, we must not forget about the bucket and the tool for cleaning the walls of the well.
  • Plus, in a specialized store you can buy holding slings, a device for lowering and locking, a drum for lifting water, a block, a winch.

1st method - manual cleaning

Considering the question of how to clean the well with your own hands, you need to familiarize yourself with the intricacies of this method. This process consists of several stages:

  • Gradual pumping of water - 30-50 cm of water volume is pumped out of the well and the walls of the rings are cleaned in parallel. To do this, you need to take a soft brush for metal or a large sponge so that the structure of the rings is not damaged. The use of detergents or any other chemically hazardous compounds is unacceptable.
  • When the walls are completely clean and the bottom is already felt, the water is completely pumped out and a thorough cleaning of the bottom begins;
  • After cleaning, the seams are closed with a solution of cement with liquid glass in order to isolate the well from surface water.

At the next stage, disinfection takes place - the cleaned walls of the well are smeared with a 10% solution of bleach. The remaining solution is poured to the bottom, the lid of the well is clogged, wrapped with tarpaulin so that chlorine does not evaporate. In this state, the well is left for 48 hours, and after the end of this period of time, the water is pumped out twice.

In the process of cleaning the well, much attention should be paid to the rings

Well cleaning

Well cleaning should be carried out not only in case of emergency, but also for preventive purposes

Also, you should definitely mention the timing of this event, namely 2-3 times a year.

Method 2 - a drain pump to help

Everyone knows that the bottom of the well is covered with layers of coarse gravel, sand, gravel, which act as a natural filter. Over time, the space between the fractions is filled with sludge, that is, the water becomes less transparent. Then you need to think about conducting relevant events. So, how is the well cleaned with a drain pump?

First of all, it should be noted that the main task is to clean the filter and seal joints, cracks in the mine. But in order to competently and efficiently perform the work, it is necessary to have at hand materials, tools for the descent / ascent.

Of course, you must first choose the right pump. What requirements should he meet? For all work to be performed well, the pump must have sufficient power corresponding to the depth of the shaft.

The use of a low-power pump is fraught with negative consequences, because poor-quality water does not completely pump out, the well becomes clogged even more, and time for this process will be wasted. Another unpleasant situation is also possible: a low-power pump cannot withstand the load and breaks, which means that the money will be thrown to the wind.

The essence of the well cleaning using the equipment in question is that the pump descends to a depth of 0.5-1 m from the bottom, then it turns on and the process of cleaning from dirt begins. Under strong pressure, water is ejected again into the well, while raising muddy sediments from the bottom.

From time to time, the pump must be lifted to clean the filters.Such a procedure must be carried out until deposits form on the filter. For reinsurance, water can be given for analysis and, if necessary, disinfected.

In a word, you can clean the well manually or with the help of a drainage pump, this is both more profitable and convenient for someone. But one thing is for sure: you need to clean the well, because only then it will serve for a long time, delighting people with delicious, crystal clear water.
