How to make reinforced concrete rings for the construction of a well yourself

When erecting utilities during the installation of water supply, sewage, and drainage plots, it is necessary to construct wells for various purposes. At the same time, ready-made reinforced concrete rings for wells are purchased at large factories or from individual entrepreneurs engaged in the manufacture of such products. In some cases, it is more profitable to buy a mold for self-production of these concrete structures and cast rings in the right amount on the spot. There are various options for blanks, differing in size and configuration, using which, it is possible to obtain reinforced concrete products of different diameters and heights.

This video shows the work of a home-made installation, with the help of which concrete rings for wells are produced. It should be noted that two workers take only 15 minutes to make one product.

Concrete preparation for maximum strength

To produce reinforced concrete rings for a well, matured cement of grade M400 and higher is required. Cement is considered ripened, from the date of production of which more than a month has passed. In addition to cement, water and sand, as well as gravel, are needed. It is important to observe the ratio of all ingredients to obtain maximum density concrete. To do this, for each part of the cement is taken:

  • sand (2-2.5 parts);
  • water (0.5-0.7 parts);
  • gravel (3-4 parts).

Concrete preparation begins with a mixture of sand and cement. Then water is added to the mixture of materials, and the kneading process continues. Next, the turn comes to gravel, which is necessarily moistened with water before adding. In a mold mounted on a flat floor or steel pallet, a reinforcing mesh is first placed on which the eyes necessary to move the finished ring are fixed. After that, they begin to fill the mold with concrete. The thickness of the reinforced product is from 0.6 to 11 mm. Depending on the dimensions, the volume of the manufactured ring changes, which affects the amount of the kneaded solution.

Important! If you make rings for a well yourself without using reinforcement, then increase the wall thickness to 15 cm. The service life of such rings is very long. To prevent the displacement of the cylindrical walls, a spacer of wooden wedges is installed between them.

List of necessary equipment

The manufacture of concrete rings is carried out on a spacious construction site. The list of required equipment and necessary devices can include:

  • a concrete mixer (shovels and a metal sheet on which concrete mortar is manually mixed);
  • blanks for rings (special forms);
  • vibrator;
  • lifting devices, since the weight of one reinforced concrete ring for a well can reach 500 kg and above;
  • reinforced frame (can be purchased ready-made or braided independently from wire).

How to make a mold for a well ring yourself?

With the independent manufacture of a cylindrical shape, two metal barrels are selected, the diameters of which will make a ring of established dimensions. Instead of barrels, ducts or pipes of the appropriate diameter can be put into operation. If there are no ready-made cylindrical shapes of the required diameter, then they are made of separate steel sheets connected to each other by simple window or door canopies. These connecting elements are attached to the metal mold by welding or rivets.

Important! You can perform formwork not only from metal or plastic cylindrical “glasses”. It is easier to work with lightweight plastic forms with little mechanization of manual labor.

The inner ring has a conical roof, which is welded to the upper contour of the product. On the top of the cone is a loop for which equipment for lifting the structure after the manufacture of the concrete ring is hooked. This shape of the roof allows you to quickly throw the mixed mortar, which flows into the space between the outer and inner walls of the formwork.

Important! In some designs, the outer formwork is not lifted up, but its wings are tipped to the sides, opening the locks that connect them.

The main stages of the production of concrete rings

So, here is the order of work will be when using a vibration installation:

  • Laying concrete in layers, 20-25 cm high, followed by ramming the mortar with a thick metal rod.
  • Dismantling of wooden struts after filling the mold half its height.
  • Leveling the surface of the concrete mortar.
  • Turn on the vibrating unit to maximize concrete compaction and fill the voids left after tamping.
  • Topping up the solution if necessary.
  • Dismantling the mold after three to four days (at the optimum level of temperature and humidity, the ring can be released from the mold the next day).
  • Ten-day (minimum) exposure of the product to achieve the required concrete strength.
  • Transportation to the place of laying.

Important! If the products are made outdoors, the molds are supplemented with special covers that protect the solution from foreign objects and precipitation.

As you can see, it is possible to make concrete rings for a well with your own hands, but it is rather difficult. But the resulting savings can be spent on other materials necessary for laying communications.

      I cast the rings for my well at the summer cottage myself, the price of 1500 for one seemed too expensive for them. The molds made square from the boards by buying a cheap fence board. He made the square shapes, it’s easier, and I just wanted the square shape. Frames were knitted from the wire of the "six", since I had her whole skein since the Soviet era. I prepared everything on 7 such squares at once, all the neighbors had wells from 5 to 7 meters, so I proceeded from this. The water needed was needed not for drinking, but purely for watering the garden. And that’s all, I poured the forms with mortar and when the cement set in a few days I broke the forms, I don’t feel sorry for such boards.
